Albion girls down visiting Depew in B1 playoff opener
Steadily pulling away over the first three quarters, No. 6 seed Albion defeated No. 11 Depew 52-38 this evening in the opening round of the Section VI Class B1 girls basketball playoffs.
Chanyce Powell poured in a game high 23 points to lead the offense for Albion. Justice Nauden and Mandi Covis each added 8, Sarah Metzler 6, Savannah Allen 4, Jessica Raglan 2 and Olivia Prest 1 for the Purple Eagles.
Tess Borgosz led Depew with 22.
Up 9-5 after one quarter, Albion extended its lead to 25-17 at the half as Powell and Covis both scored 5 and Metzler 4 in the second quarter.
The Purple Eagles upped the advantage to 16, 43-27, at the three-quarter mark as Powell and Nauden both netted 6 in the third period.
Powell added 9 down the stretch, including a three-point play and a layup off a steal, to help the Purple Eagles lock up the win as Depew could get no closer than 10.
Albion next visits No. 3 Burgard in the quarterfinals at 7 p.m. Thursday.
Buffalo Arts 58, Medina 23
Up 26-15 at the half, No. 5 Buffalo Arts used a big 17-5 third period scoring burst to key a 58-23 win over No. 13 Medina in the opening round of the Section VI Class B1 playoffs at City Honors.
Emily Kams scored 7 and Maddy Winters 5 to lead Medina.
Alex Campbell took game high honors for Arts with 33 including 7 threes in the second half.
CSAT 52, Roy-Hart 43
No. 5 CSAT bested Niagara-Orleans League foe visiting No. 12 Roy-Hart 52-43 in a Class B2 opening round contest.
Taylor Fry scored 12, Emma Lindke 10, Ava Bligh 7, Rielly Albee 4 and Kendra Hlil and Rachel Rausch 2 each for Roy-Hart.
