Albion girls advance to B1 semifinals

Barker tops Tapestry, Wilson wins

Jumping out to a 10 point first quarter lead, No. 6 Albion went on to defeat No. 3 Burgard 59-51 this evening in the Section VI Class B1 quarterfinals.

Savannah Allen scored a season high 16 points, Justice Nauden 15 and Chanyce Powell 10 to lead the way for Albion which advances to the March 5 semifinals against Tonawanda at Sweet Home. Sarah Metzler added 9, Mandi Covis 3 and Jayne Bannister, Olivia Prest and Jessica Raglan 2 each for the Purple Eagles.

Nauden scored 9, including a pair of threes, and Metzler 5 in the opening period to spark Albion out to a 20-10 lead.

The Purple Eagles went on to maintain leads of 32-23 at the half and 46-36 at the three-quarter mark.

Powell scored 6 and Allen 4 in the third. Allen, who also grabbed off 10 rebounds, added 6 points in the final period.

Barker 46, Tapestry 40

Melissa Grosshans scored 19 and Caitlyn Mason 18 to spark No. 5 Barker to a 46-40 win over host No. 4 Tapestry in a Class C1 quarterfinal.

Trailing 23-20 at the half, Barker put together a big 14-3 third period to take charge. Mason scored 7 and Grossshans 5 to lead that rally.

Grosshans then scored all 12 of Barker’s fourth quarter points to help lock up the win and send the Lady Raiders into next Wednesday’s semifinals at Jamestown Community College.

Wilson 44, Akron 36

Niagara-Orleans League champion and No. 1 seed Wilson used a balanced attack to defeat N-O foe No. 9 Akron in the quarterfinals of the Class B2 playoffs.

Rachel Senek and Serina Jager each scored 10 for Wilson as Jodie Vincent added 8, Megan DiLaura 7 and Kayla Neumann 6.
