Albion duo off to strong starts on the diamond at GCC

Two Albion High graduates, pitcher Connor Barleben and catcher John Warne, are both off to strong starts as freshman members of the Genesee Community College baseball team.

Warne hit .350 with 11 RBI, 1 home run and 2 stole bases and Barleben .407 with 1 double, 2 triples, 2 home runs and 9 RBIs during GCC’s recent 11 game trip to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina which saw the Cougars go 6-5.

Barleben also picked up a pair of wins on the mound posting a 1.89 earned run average with 9 strikeouts in 15 innings of work on the mound. He threw a complete game in picking up his first collegiate win scattering 8 hits and strikeout out 2. He earned his second with by hurling 5 innings in relief giving up only 3 hits and striking out 4.

Behind the plate, Warne threw out 2 of 4 runners who tried to steal.
