Albion captures U12 diamond tourney title

Exploding for a total of  35 runs in two title round games, Albion captured top honors in the Roy-Hart U12 baseball tournament today.

Albion defeated Medina 18-5 in the semifinals and then bested Somerset 17-11 in the championship game.

Reuben Rivers rounds third and heads for home for Albion off a double by Bobby Dysard against Medina.

Tyler Gibson had 3 hits, including a pair of home runs, for Albion against Medina as Reuben Rivers, Bobby Dysard and Jayden Allport each added 2.

Albion erupted for 6 runs in both the first and third innings to key the win.

Rivers, who was named the team’s tourney MVP, then banged out 3 hits, including a grand slam home run, to lead Albion in the title contest.

Cade Wolcott, Gibson and Dallas Ecker each had 2.

In the round robin competition to open the tourney Albion defeated Medina 16-2 and Somerset 5-4 but lost to Roy-Hart 5-3.

Jake Hughson had 3 hits as Mason Bennett and Ecker both had 2 and Jayce Ashton a triple to pace Albion against Medina. Bennett drove in a total of 3 runs.

Albion then nipped Somerset on a walk off run in the sixth inning as Ecker stole home. A single by Jason Conn set up the opportunity.

Albion knotted the contest at 4-4 with a run in the fifth frame on a single by Rivers who had a pair of hits in the game.
