Albion cagers look to rebound

Looking to get back onto the winning track, Albion will take on University Prep of Rochester at 6:30 p.m. Monday in the consolation round of the Batavia Lions Club Tournament at Genesee Community College.

City rivals Batavia and Notre Dame will meet in the championship game at 8:15 p.m.

Albion dropped a 55-40 decision to Notre Dame in Friday’s opening round while University Prep was defeated 54-36 by Batavia in the other semifinal.

Offensively, the Purple Eagles have been led by Des Blackmon, who is averaging 11.5 points per game, and Manny Thompson, who is averaging 10.3.

Albion brings a 2-3 record into the contest.

Holiday tourney action will continue on Friday with the opening round of the Holley Tournament. The host Hawks will face Lyndonville at 7 p.m. after Northstar takes on Oakfield-Alabama at 5:30 p.m. The consolation and championship games will be held at 5:30 and 7 p.m. Saturday.

On Thursday, Medina will visit defending champion CSAT in a Niagara-Orleans League boys basketball make-up game at 5:30 p.m. The Eagles are 2-0 and the Mustangs 1-1 in N-O action to date.

Four N-O games are also on tap for Friday. In boys competition, Akron visits Albion (7 p.m.) and Barker hosts Wilson (6:30 p.m.). The girls games will have Albion at Akron and Barker at Wilson, both at 6:30 p.m.

Also on Friday, the Medina girls will host Global Concepts Charter in a non league game at 5 p.m.
