Albion cagers to face tourney test

Albion’s Manny Thompson (14) and his Purple Eagle teammates will take part in the annual Batavia Lions Club Tournament this week.

Albion will face Notre Dame at 8:15 p.m. Tuesday in the opening round of the annual Batavia Lions Club Tournament at Genesee Community College to highlight the upcoming holiday week of area high school sports action.

Batavia will face University Prep of Rochester in the other semifinal.

Notre Dame is 3-0 to date while Albion is 2-2 and Batavia and University Prep are both at 2-1.

The consolation and championship games will be held at GCC on December 29.

Austin Loyd is averaging 13 points and Clayton Stanton 10 to lead Albion’s attack which also has Alex Bison, Des Blackmon, Gary Moore and Manny Thompson all averaging 6 to 7 per game.

Tuesday’s boys basketball action will also have Barker at Elba (12:30 p.m.) and Alden at Roy-Hart (6:30 .m.) in a pair of non league contests.

This holiday week’s very limited schedule of girls basketball lames will have Kendall at Attica on Monday in a Genesee Region League contest and Medina at Oakfield-Alabama on Saturday (3 p.m.) in a non league game.
