Albion boys clinch share of N-O swim title

Photos by Cheryl Wertman – Albion’s Matt Kania won both the 100 Breaststroke and 50 Freestyle to help the Purple Eagles down host Medina today and clinch at least a tie for the Niagara–Orleans League championship.

Clinching at least a tie for the title, Albion downed rival Medina 93-61 in a regular season ending Niagara-Orleans League boys swim meet this evening at Medina.

Albion, which last claimed the N-O crown during the 2018-19 season, finishes the league campaign at 7-1.

Roy-Hart/Barker, which is currently at 6-1, can claim a share of the title with a win over Newfane in the Channel Cats season finale. That meet was scheduled for today but has been postponed.

The Purple Eagles had a trio of individual event double winners as Finn McCue captured the 200 Free and 100 Butterfly, Mark Ames the 200 Individual Medley and 100 Backstroke and Matt Kania the 50 Free and 100 Breaststroke. Joel Slack also scored a win in the 100 Free.

Justin Kania was on all three winning relays for the Purple Eagles while Slack, Matt Kania, McCue and Mason Giattino were each on two.

Medina got a win from Caiden Class in the 500 Free.

The Albion girls completed the sweep by downing Medina 101-62 to finish the season at 6-2.

Keira Sidari was a double winner in the IM and Butterfly and Autumn Flugel in the 50 Free and 100 Free. Mia Olles also won the 200 Free and Willow Gaines the Breaststroke.

Gaines was also on all three winning relays while Maggie Olles, Keira Sidari and Mia Olles were each on two.

For Medina, Madeline Mark won the 500 Free and Madelynn Rutledge the Backstroke.

In action for Medina are Madeline Mark in the 500 Free and Aidan Papaj in the 100 Free.
