Albion booters surge past Medina
Taking charge in the second half, Albion posted a 5-1 victory over visiting Medina this evening in a Niagara-Orleans League girls soccer game.
Finishing the N-O campaign at 8-6, Albion erupted for four unanswered second half goals, including two each by Natalie DiCureia and Emily Blanchard, to break away from a 1-1 half-time deadlock.
Albion moved on top to stay at 2-1 when DiCureia scored on a rebound shot just 8:23 into the second half.
Blanchard doubled the Purple Eagles advantage to 3-1 when she scored off a corner kick by Monica Benjovski just 10 minutes later.
Blanchard then put a firm lock on the Albion victory when she scored off an assist from Mikayla Yaskulski with 18:43 remaining for a 4-1 Purple Eagles lead.
DiCureia rounded out the big scoring half with a goal in the final 10 seconds.
Albion also jumped out to a 1-0 lead with 17 minutes to go in the first half as Ally Page scored on a breakaway off an assist from Yaskulski.
Medina quickly knotted the contest two minutes later on a penalty kick goal by Kyla Leno but the Mustangs could not dent the Albion net again.
Medina finishes the N-O season at 4-8-2.
The final three games of the N-O campaign will be played on Thursday with Roy-Hart at CSAT, Barker at Wilson and Newfane at Akron.
