Albion booters blank Medina

Getting back onto the winning track, Albion got goal production from four different players to defeat Medina 4-0 this afternoon at Vets Park in a Niagara-Orleans League girls soccer game.

Albion built up a 2-0 half-time advantage as Mariah Elsenheimer scored on a breakaway and then assisted on a goal by Kendall Piccirilli.

The Purple Eagles put a lock on the victory with second half goals by Kayla Doyle and Abby Squicciarini.

“It was definitely a good way to come back from a tough loss (1-0 to Wilson)” said Albion coach Bruce Blanchard. “We played real solid defense and had no breakdowns.”

Liz Meyer made a number of sparkling saves in goal for Medina.

Albion improves to 2-1 and Medina slips to 1-2.

In other N-O action, Akron (3-0) downed Newfane (2-1) in a key early season clash of unbeatens, Wilson (3-0) bested CSAT (0-3) 11-0 and Roy-hart (1-2) downed Barker (0-3) 6-0.

Holly Rudolph and Marina Muth each had two goals to lead the attack for Wilson.
Paige Buscaglia tallied twice for Akron as Rielee Welch and Caitlin Regan each added a goal.

Field Hockey

Akron 4, Medina 0
AKRON – Molly Jennings and Claudia Stone each scored two goals to lead Akron (1-0) past Medina (0-2) 4-0 as all the scoring came in the first half.

Hallie Seaman made 21 saves in goal for Medina.

In other N-O action, Newfane (1-0) defeated Wilson (1-1) 2-0 on a pair of goals by Lydia Gaughran as Sam Summers earned the shutout and Kenmore (2-0) blanked Roy-Hart (0-2) 8-0.

Barker defeated Sacred Heart 4-0 in a non league contest on goals by Brooke Bodine, Morgan Brown, Olivia Denny and Heather Mason.

Golf

Medina 258, Akron 259
Improving to 3-1, Medina nipped Akron 258-259 at Shelridge as Sam Busch earned medalist honors with a 39.

Barker 225, Albion 255
Albion’s John Krieger and Barker’s Mitch Luckman shared medalist honors with rounds of 41 as the Purple Eagles lost to the visiting Raiders 225-255 at Hickory Ridge.

Alonzo St. Louis added a 42 and Brad Wilson a 44 for Barker.
