Opening the season on a high note, Albion downed visiting Starpoint 4-1 this evening in the opening round of the Purple Eagles girls soccer tournament.

Albion grabbed a 2-1 halftime lead as Camryn London scored off an assist from Kenzi Hapeman and then Abby Scanlan scored from Aly Knaak.

It remained a tight 2-1 contest until 11 minutes remained in the second half when Scanlan scored again off an assist from Nikki Creasy to give the Purple Eagles a little breathing room.

Jessica Penna then put a lock on the win for Albion when she scored just two minutes later from Creasey as the Purple Eagles made new Coach Bridgett Varin’s debut a successful one.

Albion will now play in the championship game at 6:30 p.m. Saturday against the winner of Friday’s other semifinal contest between Kenmore West and Sweet Home.
