Albion bests Oakfield in Tri County contest
Staying perfect at 7-0, Albion posted a 16-6 victory over visiting Oakfield Wednesday in a Tri County Babe Ruth League game.
Breaking away from a 6-6 tie, Albion regained the lead for good by exploding for 7 runs in the fourth inning. Two-run singles by Thomas Furmanski and Zach Colacecche highlighted that uprising which also included singles by Austin Aman and Liam Ward.
Albion later locked up the win by tallying three times in the sixth on a single by Patrick Ricker, a walk and an error.
Albion also got off to a quick start scoring 4 times in the opening inning on 3 walks and RBI singles by Ward and winning pitcher Bailey Blanchard.
Oakfield did grab a brief 6-4 lead by scoring 6 runs in the top of the third inning on two singles, two doubles, two walks and a pair of errors.
Albion though quickly retied the game with 2 runs in the home half of the third on a walk, an error and a wild pitch before moving back on top to stay with 7 runs in the fourth frame.
Ward, Blanchard and Colacecche each had 2 hits on the evening.
Blanchard struck out 3 over the first 4 innings and Ward fanned 5 over the last 3 frames.
Albion next hosts the Akron Black at 6 p.m. on July 5 at the Albion JV field. The Akron Black is also currently unbeaten at 5-0.
