The Basketball Coaches Association of New York has honored Albion boys varsity basketball Coach Brennan Meakin as its Coach of the Year for the Niagara-Orleans League.

In just his second year at the varsity helm Meakin led Albion to its first first Section VI basketball championship in 43 years. His No. 4 seeded Purple Eagles upended top seeded Burgard 62-54 in the Class B1 semifinals before besting Maryvale 65-57 in the finals giving the Purple Eagles their first title since 1972.

Two of Meakin’s senior players, Des Blackmon and Clayton Stanton, have earned Honorable Mention on the annual All-Western New York team.

Stanton also was named to the All-Hustle team for sectional championship week and another Albion senior, Austin Loyd, was honored for making the Best Pass during championship week.

Two members of the Albion girls varsity basketball team, senior Justice Nauden and sophomore Chanyce Powell, have also both earned Honorable Mention on the annual All-WNY squad.
