Albion and Holley bow in non league openers
Spencerport downed host Albion 64-52 and Sodus trimmed visiting Holley 38-33 in non league season opening boys basketball games this evening.
Ben Reding scored 19 and Geno Pellett 18 to spark the offense for Spencerport which led 13-8 after one period, 26-22 at the half and 47-40 at the three-quarter mark.
Kevin Hillman scord 14, Deyonci Farley 12,Liam Ward 11, Bailey Blanchard 9 and Tony Freeman 6 for Albion. Hillman scored 6 in both the second and third periods and Farley 7 in the third.
Albion next hosts Emerson of Buffalo in a non league game at 7 p.m. Thursday.
A rash of 30 turnovers proved costly in the narrow loss for Holley.
Carson Major scored 12, Kohl Morgan 11 and Broek Ostrom 5 for the Hawks.
The contest was tied 12-12 after one period and 20-20 at the half. Sodus then took a slender 28-25 lead at the three-quarter mark.
Holley next hosts CG Finney in another non league game at 7 p.m. Wednesday.
Girls Basketball
Byron-Bergen 43, Holley 23
Julianna Amesbury scored a game high 23 points to lead host Byron-Bergen to a 43-23 Genesee Region League season opening win over Holley.
The Lady Bees led 23-11 at the half.
Halee Passarell scored 11 and Olivia Radford 6 for Holley which next faces the host Lady Eagles in the opening round of the Kendall Tournament at 7:45 p.m. Wednesday.
