Akron uses fast start to down Medina and clinch a tie for the N-O field hockey title

A lighting quick two goal scoring burst in the first two minutes ignited Akron to a 7-2 win over Medina at Vets Park this evening clinching at least a tie for a third straight Niagara-Orleans League field hockey champioinship for the undefeated (11-0) Lady Tigers.

Lacey Berghorn and Natalie Ginestre scored the key early season goals for Akron.

The Lady Tigers upped the advantage to 5-1 at the half after second period goals by Berghorn, Olivia McClaine and Sophia Jones.

Iyla Lilleby scored Medina’s second period goal.

Akron maintained a 7-2 lead after third period goals by Jones and Nevada Bergman.

Lydia Fox scored in the third period for Medina which is now 6-4.

Akron will close out the N-O season with a key game at runner-up Barker (10-1) on Monday while Medina winds up with a road game at Kenmore on Thursday and a home contest against Newfane on Monday.
