Akron tops Medina to go to 5-0 in N-O softball

Scoring in five different innings, Akron posted a 9-4 win over Medina this afternoon at Vets Park to remain undefeated at 5–0 in Niagara-Orleans League softball competition.

Akron scored solo runs in each of the first three innings and then tallied twice in the top of the fifth to build up a 5-1 lead. Jayni Sundown had an RBI double in the first inning, Lydia Blueye an RBI single in the second and Mikayla Venter an RBI triple in the fifth.

Medina did answer back with three runs in the home half of the fifth to cut the deficit to 5-4 but the Mustangs could get no closer. Miriam Fike had an RBI single during the rally.

Akron finally put a lock on the win by scoring four times in the top of the seventh on two errors, an RBI single by Melanie Holtz and an RBI double by Emma Corbett. Madison Henning’s third hit of the day ignited the uprising.

Jenelle Kieffer registered 11 strikeouts in the circle for the Lady Tigers.

Brooklyn Brown had two hits for Medina which is now 2-2.
