Akron tops Medina in field hockey

Jumping out to a 3-0 half-time advantage, Akron went on to defeat Medina 5-0 at Vets Park this evening to improve to 7-1 in Niagara-Orleans League field hockey competition.

Sarah Schultz scored two goals in the first half and one in the second to lead the way for Akron which also got tallies from Abigail Stone in the first half and Ashton Witzleben in the second.

The loss drops Medina to 0-9.

Photo by Cheryl Wertman – Former long time Medina Coach Kristi Young was honored at half-time by the Mustang seniors for her 27 years of coaching with the Medina program during which time she coached over 500 players. The seniors include Chantelle Kidney (15), Bailey Allen (11), Anna Bliount (10), Dominique Hughes (1), Addison Zavitz (23), Chelsea Vercruysse (24) and goalie Hallie Seaman.

Barker 4, Roy-Hart 0
Defending champion Barker improved to 8-0 with a 4-0 win at Roy-Hart (1-8) as Gabby Clare had two goals and Melissa Grosshans and Alexandrea VeRost one each.

In one other N-O contest, Kenmore (5-4) nipped Wilson (6-3) 2-1.
