Akron tops Albion to claim N-O title outright
Akron locked up outright possession of its first Niagara-Orleans League baseball championship since 1975 by downing visiting Albion 11-0 this afternoon.
Denny Romesser hurled the shutout for the Tigers as he scattered 4 hits and struck out 9.
Jack Julicher banged out 3 doubles and Vince Consiglio had 2 hits to lead the ofense for Akron which took charge early by erupting for 6 runs in the first inning.
Akron improves to 10-1 and Albion slips to 4-7 in N-O action.
The Tigers will now visit the Purple Eagles at 4:45 p.m. Wednesday to close out the N-O season.
Wilson 13, Barker 1
Up 3-1, Wilson erupted for 5 runs in both the sixth and seventh innings to lock up an 13-1 N-O win over Barker.
Matthew Stoltzenberg, Ryan Hough, Casey Sidote, Drew Dabill and Blake Simpson each had 2 hits for the Lakemen.
Conner Ernest picked up the win on the mound allowing only 2 hits and striking out 13 in six innings of work.
Wilson is now 5-6 and Barker 0-11 in N-O action.
The teams will complete the home-and -home series on Wednesday to complete the league season.
