Akron stickmen post key win over Medina

A quick three goal scoring burst late in the first quarter ignited undefeated (4-0) Akron to a 12-6 victory over Medina this afternoon in a key Class D Division lacrosse game at Vets Park.

Breaking away from an early 1-1 deadlock, Akron erupted for three lightning quick goals in a span of just 1:09 on tallies by Owen Hill, Weylon Abrams and Ethan Schleef to take the lead for good.

The Tigers, which also posted a key 14-8 win over Eden (3-1) on Friday, went on to hold leads of 5-1 after one period, 7-2 at the half and 7-3 at the three-quarter mark.

Nelson Logan led the Tigers with 4 goals.

Jake Cotter scored 3 goals for Medina as Mike Carson, Mason Lewis and Brendan Luthart each added 1.

The loss  drops Medina into third place in D Division action at 4-2.

Medina’s Martha Gardner won the 800 and 1500 at the Buffalo Invitational today.

The Mustangs also got second place finishes from Jalin Cooper in the 100 and 200, Dan Heil in the 800 and 1600, Jack Hill in the 3200 and by the 400 relay quartet of Je’ne Brown, Trinity Fleck, Kharise Johnson and Katie Bilicki.
