Akron spikers capture Albion tourney title
Akron downed Roy-Hart 25-13, 25-23 this afternoon in the championship match of the Albion Volleyball Tournament.
In the semifinals, Akron defeated Albion 25-16, 25-10 and Roy-Hart downed Medins 25-13, 25-23.
Akron’s Darion Jonathan earned MVP honors while the All Tournament team included Akron’s Helena Hill, Albion’s Brianna Johnson, Roy-Hart’s Aspen Moore, Medina’s Je’ne Brown and Oakfield-Alabama/Elba’s Brianna Smith.
Albion and Medina both went 4-2 in pool play.
Johnson had 22 assists, 9 aces and 5 digs; Haley Smith 11 kills and 3 blocks and Caitlynn Snook 8 kills, 5 aces and 13 digs on the day for Albion.
Brown had 10 kills, Camri King 13 kills, Alyssa Beyer 10 digs, Grace Masse 19 assists, Maddie Williams 5 kills and Elle Gross 6 kills and 6 aces for Medina.
