Akron scores field hockey win over Medina

Scoring a quick goal in the first four minutes, Akron went on to defeat Medina 5-0 this afternoon in a Niagara-Orleans League field hockey game at Vets Park.

Claudia Stone scored the early goal for Akron which added tallies by Molly Jennings and Daktoa Earle to go up 3-0 at the half.

Jennings and Abigail Stone added second half goals for Akron which improves to 5-2.

The loss drops Medina to 0-7.

In other N-O field hockey action, Kenmore (7-1) defeated Roy-Hart (0-7) 5-0 and Wilson (4-4) downed rival Newfane (3-5) 5-2. Michelle Myers scored four goals for Wilson while Kaitlin Chunco and Morgan Bedford netted the Newfane goals.

In a non league game, undefeated (9-0) Barker defeated Nichols 4-1 as Melissa Grosshans, Erin Greenwald, Renee Levy and Brooke Bodine each scored a goal.

Volleyball

Newfane 25-25-25, Medina 13-19-18
Stephanie Sherwood had seven kills and three aces, Erica Wright five kills and Clare Puff four kills to lead the way for Newfane (5-4) in a 25-13, 25-19, 25-18 win over visiting Medina (4-6).

Jenna Carpenter had five kills and Nicole Blount four for Medina as Emily Kams had 12 assists.

Roy-Hart 25-25-25, Akron 8-14-15
Improving to 8-2, Roy-Hart rolled past Akron (1-8) 25-8, 25-14, 25-18 as Justine Wittcop had 10 service points including five aces and five kills; Morgan Jones nine points with two aces and four kills and Eliza Schwab with 14 points including nine aces.
