Akron scores a key field hockey victory over Roy-Hart as Barker grabs N-O lead
Defending champion Barker used the combination of a 7-0 victory over visiting Kenmore with Akron’s 2-1 home field win over Roy-Hart to take over sole possession of the Niagara-Orleans League field hockey league.
Barker stays unbeaten at 4-0 while Akron improves to 4-1 and Roy-Hart slips to 3-1.
Akron jumped out to a 1-0 lead when Madison Brege scored just six minutes into the second half.
Roy-Hart did battle back to knot the contest when Samantha Choate scored just three minutes into the second half but the Lady Rams could not score agin. (Click here to see a video of Choate’s goal.)
Akron answered back as Olivia McClaine scored what proved to be the game winner with 16 minutes to go.
Barker, which led 2-0 at the half, got two goals each from Ella Gooding and Ginger Alexander as Ciara Gregoire, Lena Fallolari and Emily Wagner each chipped in with one.
Fox, Katrina Clare, Aaliyah Wheat and Serena Harris all had assists.
Gooding and Alexander netted the two first half goals.
The loss drops Kenmore to 0-5.
In the other game, Wilson (2-2) nipped rival Newfane (0-4) 1-0 in overtime on a goal by Anna Meyers.

For Kendall, Brittney Marks had 25 digs, 5 kills and 5 assists and Madison Shonitsky 11 digs and 8 kills.
