Akron ousts Medina in field hockey sectionals

Scoring home field victories, No. 2 seed Akron downed No. 7 Medina 3-0 and top seeded defending champion Barker topped No. 8 Roy-Hart 6-0 this afternoon in the quarterfinals of the Section VI Class C field hockey playoffs.

Molly Jennings, Gabrielle Hill and Abigail Stone took turns scoring the goals for Akron which tallied seven minutes into each half to key the win.

Barker jumped out to a 2-0 first half lead over Roy-Hart on goals by Erin Greenwald and Gabby Clare.

Olivia Denny added two goals in the second half for the Lady Raiders.

Roy-Hart goalie Haley Moore stopped a penalty shot.

The other Class C quarterfinals saw No. 3 Eden defeat No. 6 Newfane 4-1 and No. 4 Holland down No. 5 Wilson 3-0.

Thursday’s semifinals at Amherst will now have Holland vs. Barker and Eden vs. Akron.
