Akron nips Barker to claim N-O softball title; Albion romps to win over Newfane
Front-running Akron edged past runner-up Barker 4-3 this afternoon to lock up the Niagara-Orleans League softball championship.
Akron improves to 10-1 while Barker finishes the N-O season at 9-3. Akron will finish the league campaign on Saturday with a make-up game against Wilson.
Breaking away from a 3-3 tie, Akron scored the game winning run in the fifth inning as Ashlee Henning came home off a hit by Melanie Holtz.
Barker had rallied from a 3-1 deficit into a 3-3 tie in the top of the fifth on an RBI single by Peyton Bradley and a sacrifice by Natalie Brandel.
Bradley, Mia Herman and Kaylee Stoll each had 2 hits on the day for the Lady Raiders.
Albion 22, Newfane 0
Albion improved its N-O record to 5-6 with a 22-0 win over visiting Newfane this evening.
Alana Irvine hurled a 1 hitter with 9 strikeouts for Albion. She also banged out 2 hits and drove in 2 runs.
Maya Knaak also had 2 hits and 3 RBI for Albion which finishes the N-O season on Monday against Wilson.

Newfane 4 1/2, Barker 1
Singles wins by Luke Gunby and Miles Czekaj helped spark Newfane to a 4 1/2-1 N-O tennis win over Barker which got as singles win from Lucas DerSarkissian.
Barker finishes the N-O season at 7-5.
