Making it a three-peat, top seeded Akron captured a third straight Section VI Class C field hockey championship by nipping Niagara-Orleans League rival No. 2 seed Barker 1-0 this evening at West Seneca West High School.

Nevada Bergman scored the game’s lone goal for Akron, her 15th of the season, four minutes into the second quarter.

Barker had a 10-4 edge in corner opportunities and the Lady Raiders best scoring chances came off two of them. The first came in the final seconds of the third quarter and the other early in the fourth, but both times had shots just miss.

Akron, which also blanked Barker twice during the N-O season by scores of 4-0 and 2-0 in route to a 12-0 title run, will now face Port Byron (Section III) in the Far West Regional at 3 p.m. Saturday at Medina’s Vets Park.
