Akron matmen top Medina; Albion wins

A  burst of four straight first period pins keyed Akron to a 54-30 victory over host Medina this evening in a Niagara-Orleans League wrestling match.

In the other N-O matches, Albion trimmed host Wilson 43-39 and Newfane bested Roy-Hart 72-16.

Breaking way from an early 12-12 deadlock, Akron moved on top to stay at 36-12 with consecutive first period pins by Nick Wood (138), Ryan Yaeger (145), Christian Humbert (152) and Brian Covell (160).

The Tigers also got back-to-back second period pins by Landin Dieterle (180) and Millard Young (195) to up the advantage to 48-18 and put a lock on the win.

Rashawn Bloom (106) and Diego Russell (170) had pins for Medina whose other 18 points came on three forfeit wins.

Akron is now 2-0 and Medina 0-2 in N-O action.

Albion 43, Wilson 39
Bryce Kelly, Ellwood Hafner and Dayne Aina had pins for Albion which also got decision wins by Junior Morales and Bryce Froman.

Albion is now 1-1 and Wilson 1-1 in league competition.

Newfane 72, Roy-Hart 16
Josh Hailey and Karson Grover both had pins and AJ Schafer a major decision win for Roy-Hart which slips to 0-2.

Defending champion Newfane is now 2-0.
