Akron harriers sweep Medina; Albion girls win

Akron scored a sweep over host Medina this afternoon in a Niagara-Orleans League cross-country meet.
Akron (2-1) won the boys meet 25-34 as Mike Swiriarski took top honors for the Tigers ahead of the 2-3 finish by the Mustangs (0-2) duo of Dan Heil and Jack Hill.
The Lady Tigers (2-1) completed the sweep by downing the Mustangs (0-2) 23-36 as Margo Henley finished first ahead of the Medina duo of Sabrina Quiros and Hannah Heil.
The Albion girls improved to 3-0 with a 21-37 victory over Wilson (0-2) behind the 1-2 finish of Emma Mathes and Hannah Grammar.
Julie Reagan finished third for Wilson.
Wilson (2-0) did get a split on the day by winning the boys race 19-39 over Albion (0-3) sparked by the 1-2-3 finish of William Schwarznuller, Trey Rees and Cal Seeley.
Evan Steier finished fourth for Albion.
The defending champion Barker boys improved to 4-0 by defeating Roy-Hart 15-48 and Newfane 23-34. Newfane (1-2) downed Roy-Hart (1-2) 16-46 in the other portion of the tri-meet.
Barker was led by the 1-3-5 finish of Jake Arnold, Andrew Jenks and Adam Wagner.
Colin McCabe placed second and Allen Lingle fourth for Newfane.
The Newfane girls stayed unbeaten at 3-0 by downing Barker 15-50 and Roy-Hart 18-43. Roy-Hart (2-1) bested Barker (0-4) 22-33.
Newfane was led by the 1-2-3-5 finish of Kim Goerss, Vanessa Burkhard, Nina Burkhard and Lydia Chunco as Roy-Hart’s Anna Rickard placed fourth.
The Medina girls were led by the 2-3 finish of Sabrina Quiros, left, and Hannah Heil.
