Akron girls top Medina; Barker wins thriller

Steadily pulling away over the first three quarters, Akron posted a 58-38 victory over host Medina this evening to improve to 4-1 in Niagara-Orleans League girls basketball competition.

Neely Abrams scored 22, Helena Hill 13, Darion Jonathan 11, Jessee Jonathan 7 and Ellie Leeds 5 for Akron which led by 13 (16-3) after one quarter by 24 (37-13) at the half and by 31 (55-24) at the three-quarter mark.

A three by Abrams followed by three straight layups off turnovers by Hill capped off Akron’s first quarter surge.  Abrams then scored 10, including a pair of threes, during the Lady Tigers 21 point second period.

Camri King scored 13, Je’ne Brown 12, Maddie Williams 7, Maleyah Brewer 3, Divere Brown 2 and Brianna MacFarland 1 for Medina which slips to 0-5.

Barker 45, Roy-Hart 43
Barker nipped visiting Roy-Hart 45-43 on a three point basket by Serena Harris with 40 seconds remaining.

Gabby Baker scored 15, Harris 13 and Haley Brown 10 to set the pace for Barker which made it two wins in a row to improve to 2-3 in N-O action.

Meghan Washington and Maddy Glena both scored 10 for Roy-Hart which slips to 0-5.

Newfane 46, Wilson 37
Front-running Newfane downed rival Wilson 46-37 to remain defeated in N-O competition at 7-0.

Leading by a narrow 32-31 margin, Newfane opened up a little breathing room down the stretch as Paige Emborksy hit a three and Alexa Littman followed up with a rebound bucket.

Emborsky finished with 14, Emily Foltz 10, Littman 9 and Marlee Passuite 6,

Emily Kelly and Skylar Munnikhuysen each scored 14 for Wilson which slips to 3-3.

The contest was tied 17-17 at the half.

Hilton 47, Albion 20
Hilton defeated Albion 47-20 in a non league game.

Caitlynn Snook scored 6 for Albion which trailed 23-7 at the half.

Albion next hosts Akron at 1 p.m. Saturday in an N-O make-up game.
