Akron girls rally past Medina

Rebounding from a five point halftime deficit, Akron rallied to outscore host Medina 21-10 in the second half to claim a 35-29 victory this evening in the Niagara-Orleans League girls basketball season finale.

Medina jumped out to a 12-5 first quarter lead as Molley Gross had a pair of jumpers and Nicole Blount a three and a layup.

The Mustangs maintained a 19-14 lead at the half as Taylor Miller had a three and Blount and Gross jumpers in the second period.

However, the Mustangs managed just 10 more points in the second half.

Maggie Kowalik scored 8 of her 12 points and Gina Henley 6 of her 10 in the second half to lead Akron’s rally.

Miller and Blount both finished with 9 and Gross 8 for the Mustangs. Gross also grabbed off 11 rebounds and Maddy Winters 10.

Akron finishes the N-O season at 6-8 and Medina at 1-13.

Albion 40, Barker 32
Albion capped off an 11-3 N-O campaign with s 40-32 victory at Barker as the Purple Eagles rallied in the second half.

Trailing 18-10, Albion used a 18-12 third period scoring surge to get back in the game. Kelsee Soule and Chanyce Powell each had 6 to lead that rally.

The Purple Eagles then closed out the win by outscoring the Lady Raiders 12-2 in the final period.

Soule finished with 13, Powell 12, Justice Nauden 7, Emily Blanchard 4 and Sarah Metzler and Mandy Covis 2.

Caitlyn Mason scored 12 and Julia Atwater 8 for Barker which finishes the N-O

season at 6-8.

Wilson 54, Newfane 19
Wilson capped off a perfect 14-0 fifth straight N-O championship season by downing rival Newfane 54-19.

Emily Lasher had 18 points, 10 rebounds, 6 steals and 4 assists; Dana Smith 13 points, 5 steals and 3 blocks and Allie Bubar 10 points, 7 assists 5 steals and 5 rebounds to lead the way for Wilson.

Wilson led 21-8 after one quarter and 33-9 at the half.

Newfane winds up the N-O season at 9-5.
