Akron avenges field hockey loss to Medina; Roy-Hart, Barker win to stay tied for N-O lead

Avenging an earlier season shutout loss at home (2-0), Akron downed Medina 2-1 in a Niagara-Orleans League field hockey game at Vets Park this afternoon.

In other N-O action, Roy-Hart and Barker both scored victories to remain deadlocked for first place at 10-1 heading into next Tuesday’s key league finale showdown at Barker. Roy-Hart blanked Wilson (4-7) 8-0 and Barker nipped upset minded Newfane (0-11) 3-2 in overtime.

Akron built up a 2-0 lead as Sophia Jones scored with 9:22 to go in the first half and Alexis Bell tallied with 16:15 to go in the second half.

Medina did cut the deficit in half when Sarah Cochrane scored with 8:45 remaining but the Mustangs could not net the qualifier.

Akron finishes the N-O season at 8-4 while Medina slips to 6-5 heading into next Tuesday’s league finale at Wilson.

Roy-Hart 8, Wilson 0
Sam Choate scored 3 goals and McKennzie Rothwell 2 to lead the way for Roy-Hart as Miah Glena, Ashley Hill and Danielle Kozma each chipped in with 1.

Barker 3, Newfane 2 OT
Barker survived the upset as Katrina Clare tied the game at 2-2 with just 1:30 remaining in the second half and then netted the game winner at 6:11 of the overtime period.

Newfane built up a 2-0 lead in the first half on goals by Alissa Zwelling and Ashlee Kettle.

Barker got back into the game on a goal by Kaedynce Schumacher 10 minutes into the second half.

Wilson 25-25-25, Albion 15-17-19
Maddy Seeley had 25 assists and Brooke Wisor 16 digs and 5 aces to lead Wilson (4-4) to a three set N-O volleyball win over Albion (2-7).

Pembroke 25-25-25-20-25, Holley 13-22-27-25-11

Casey Wurtz had 9 kills and Taylor Dorman 9 aces to lead Pembroke to a five set Genesee Region League win over Holley.
