Akron wins to lock up N-O title outright

Akron locked up outright possession of the Niagara-Orleans League boys basketball championship with a 73-59 victory at Barker this evening.

Ben Gerstung scored 24, Blake Gerstung 18, Brayden Lamont 12, Syras Jonathan 9, Derren Brooks 8 and Brodie Hill 2 for Akron which improves to 10-1.

Anthony Taliaferro scored 22 and Owen Harris 12 to lead Barker.

The Tigers led 26-13 after one quarter and 43-28 at the half as Ben Gerstung and Blake Gerstung both scored 13 and Jonathan 9 in the opening half. Blake Gerstung hit three threes, Ben Gerstung two and Jonathan two twos and a three in the opening period.

Akron, which went 27 of 31 from the line, held a 59-46 advantage at the three-quarter mark.

Ben Gerstung scored 11, Brooks and Lamont 6 each and Blake Gerstung 5 to pace the Tigers in the second half.

Akron shared the N-O title with Newfane last year at 11-1. Ironically the Tigers will close out the N-O season at Newfane Tuesday.

N-O Standings
Akron 10-1, Albion 7-3, Wilson 7-3, Medina 5-5, Roy-Hart 2-7, Barker 2-8, Newfane 2-8.

Perry 64, Holley 63 OT
Holley dropped a narrow 64-63 overtime decision to Perry in a non league contest.

Vinny Golisano scored 29, Destin Kuyal 11 and Avante Walker 10 for the Hawks.

N-O Girls Basketball
Akron 77, Barker 17
Akron improved to 8-2 in N-O competition with a 77-17 win over visiting Barker.
