Akron downs Barker for Class C title

Top seeded Akron blanked Niagara-Orleans League rival No. 2 seed Barker 3-0 in the Section VI Class C field hockey championship game this evening at Alden.

Olivia McClaine, Lacey Berghorn and Madison Brege took turns scoring goals in the first half for Akron.

Akron, which last captured the Class C title in 2017, finishes the season with a 14-1 overall record.

Barker, which had captured the last two Class C titles, finishes at 12-2.

It marked the 11th time in the last 15 years that Akron and Barker have met in the Class C title contest.

Akron advanced to the title contest by blanking Eden 5-0 in the semifinals as Barker downed N-O foe Roy-Hart 6-2.

Akron and Barker shared the N-O title with identical 11-1 records.
