Akron blanks Wilson to capture N-O field hockey title; Barker downs Medina

Scoring a goal in each half, Akron blanked host Wilson 2-0 this afternoon to lock up outright possession of the Niagara-Orleans League field hockey championship.

Olivia Diebel scored in the first half and Heather Cummings in the second half for Akron which completed a 11-1 league campaign to claim the N-O crown for the first time since 2006.

Nine time defending champion Barker finished a half game off the pace at 10-1-1 after defeating visiting Medina 8-0.

Becky Stoloski and Emma Duffy each scored a pair of goals for Barker which led 6-0 at the half.

Erin Greenwald, Erika Moeller, Lydia Dewart and Katrina Clare also each scored a goal for the Lady Raiders.

Medina finishes the N-O season at 1-11.

In one other N-O game Kenmore (2-10) upended Newfane (3-9) 2-0.

Final Standings: Akron 11-1-0, Barker 10-1-1, Wilson 7-4-1, Roy-Hart 7-5-0, Newfane 3-9-0, Kenmore 2-10-0, Medina 1-11-0.
