Akron bows, Wilson ties in sectional finals
Niagara-Orleans League teams went 0-1-1 in Section VI girls soccer playoff championship games today.
In Class B1, No. 4 seed Akron dropped a narrow 1-0 decision to No. 6 Fredonia at Sweet Home.
In Class C, No. 1 Wilson and No. 2 Frewsburg ended up as co-champions when the contest, which was played at Dunkirk, finished deadlocked at 1-1 after two overtime periods.
Frewsburg does advance to the state playoffs by edging Wilson 4-3 in a decisive shootout to determine the section’s state representative.
Leia Cloy, Lily Avery and Peyton McInnis each scored a goal for Wilson in the shootout. Addison Elia had Wilson’s lone goal in regulation time.
