Able to manage just two hits, Medina dropped a 3-0 decision to Akron in the Niagara-Orleans League baseball opener for both teams this afternoon at Vets Park.

Brandon Orr hurled the two hit shutout for Akron striking out 10 and walking just one.

Akron scored what proved to be the game winner in the third inning on a two out single by Mitchell Holtz.

The Tigers tacked on two big insurance runs in the fifth frame on a single by Jacob Cummings and an error as two walks set up the opportunity.

Medina’s only hits were singles by Brett Riemer in the first inning and Alex Allis in the seventh.

The Tigers closed out the win in the seventh by turning a double play triggered by shortstop Derek Holtz followed by game ending strikeout by Orr.

Chris Goyette pitched the first five and one-third innings for Medina allowing only two hits with two strikeouts and five walks.  Trevor Luthart came on to hurl the final inning and two-thirds allowing one hit with three strikeouts.

Medina next hosts Barker at 4:45 p.m. Friday.
