Akron ‘9’ bests Albion

Maintaining a share of second place at 4-2, Akron downed host Albion 4-1 this afternoon in a Niagara-Orleans League make-up baseball game.

Albion jumped out to an early 2-0 lead by scoring once in the first on a sacrifice by Steve Borowczyk and once in the third on an error.

Albion did cut the deficit to 2-1 by scoring in the fifth on a sacrifice fly by JJ Downs but the Purple Eagles could not cross home plate again.

Akron picked up two big insurance runs in the sixth inning on an error and a sacrifice fly by Connor Borchert.

Albion did get two runners aboard in the seventh on a lead-off double by Trey Hart and a two-out walk but Akron pitcher Aaron Siska quickly got out of the jam with a clutch game ending strikeout.

Siska allowed only 3 hits on the day and struck out 11.

The loss drops defending champion Albion to 3-3.

Softball

Akron 10, Albion 3

Akron boosted its N-O record to 5-1 by downing visiting Albion 10-3 this afternoon.

Sarah Schultz had a home run for Akron as did Meaghan Hurley for Albion.

The loss drops Albion to 2-3.
