Putting together a late rally, Medina nipped Batavia 4-3 in a non league baseball game at Vets Park this afternoon.

Trailing 3-1, Medina pulled even by scoring twice in the bottom of the sixth inning on a leadoff home run by Nate Sherman and a one out RBI single by Matt Saj. A single by AJ Seefeldt helped set up that tally.

The Mustangs then pulled out the narrow victory by pushing across a run in the bottom of the seventh inning. Austin Mosher doubled to ignite the inning and moved to third on a sacrifice bunt by Xander Payne. Then, following an intentional walk to Brian Fry, Mosher came home with the decisive run on a fielders choice play off the bat of Sherman.

Batavia had bult up the 3-1 lead by scoring once in the first on a home run by Jake Humes and twice in the fourth on a burst of three hits.

Medina had briefly tied the game at 1-1 on an RBI single by Seefeldt in the home half of the first.

Chris Goyette pitched the first five innings for Medina allowing 4 hits and striking out 9.  Trevor Luthart came on to hurl the final two frames giving up 2 hits with 4 strikeouts. He registered a clutch inning ending strikeout to get out of a bases loaded jam in the sixth.

Now at 4-0, Medina next hosts Pembroke at 4:45 p.m. Friday in another non league contest.
