Albion rolls past Akron in Tri County Babe Ruth League clash of unbeatens
Jumping out to a quick first inning lead, Albion went on to defeat visiting Akron 10-1 this evening in a key Tri County Babe Ruth League clash of unbeatens.
Staying perfect at 8-0, Albion took the lead for good by scoring twice in the first inning on a double by Liam Ward and a single by Zach Colacecchi. A leadoff triple by Patrick Ricker set up the threat.
The lead doubled to 4-0 in the third inning on a solo home run by winning pitcher Thomas Furmanski and a run producing fielders choice play off the bat of Colacecchi.
Albion then broke the game open by tallying three times in the fourth frame on single by Ward, a double by Furmanski and a triple by Drew Caldwell. An error and a single by Ricker set up the opportunity.
A two-run single by Bailey Blanchard later highlighted a three-run sixth inning uprising as the first run came in on an error.
Caldwell finished with 3 hits as Ricker, Ward and Furmanski each had 2.
On the mound, Furmanski allowed 4 hits and struck out 13 in 5 innings of work.
Ricker hurled the final two frames allowing 2 hits and striking out 3. He got out of a no out, bases loaded jam in the seventh by registering 3 straight clutch strikeouts.
A fifth inning triple by Matt Iannarelli plated the lone run for Akron which slips to 6-1.
