Purple Eagles use home run power to down Dragons in Evoy Memorial twin bill opener
A trio of home runs sparked Albion to a 10-3 victory over Pembroke this afternoon in the opener of the Jeff Evoy Memorial Scholarship doubleheader at Medina’s Vets Park.
Bryce Pritchard belted two homers and Michael DiCureia one to lead the Purple Eagles attack. DiCureia finished with a pair of hits as did Liam Ward.
Albion jumped out to an early 2-0 lead on solo home runs by Pritchard in the first inning and DiCureia in the second.
Pritchard later put a lock on the Purple Eagles victory by belting a three-run homer in the sixth inning upping the score to 10-3. A walk and a single by Ward preceded that blast.
Scoring in every inning, Albion also picked up one run in the third on an error following a single by Harrison Brown; two in the fourth on a fielders choice play and a wild pitch as singles by Isaiah Callicutt and DiCureia set up the opportunity and two more in the fifth on a wild pitch and a fielders choice play. A single by Ward, a walk and a hit batter loaded the bases to set up that threat.
Jacob Miller and Zach von Kramer both had a pair of hits for Pembroke. Von Kamer’s included a triple as Miller and Casey Shaw both had doubles.
Vinnie Zona picked up the win on the mound for Albion scattering 5 hits with 3 strikeouts in six innings of work on the mound. Zona also teamed up with Pritchard at first base to turn a double play in the second inning.
Medina is to face Wilson in the second half of the doubleheader at 7 this evening.
