Blue Devils nip Mustang stickmen

A late rally fell just short as Medina dropped a narrow 13-12 decision to East Aurora in an interdivisional lacrosse game at Vets Park this afternoon.
Trailing 12-6 after three quarters Medina came roaring back down the stretch.
The Mustangs netted five straight goals, 3 by Christian Silversmith and 2 by Brendan Luthart, to slice the deficit to just one at 12-11 with 2:40 remaining.
The teams then traded goals with Silversmith tallying for Medina with just eight seconds to go to again cut the deficit to one at 13-12.
The Mustangs won the ensuing face-off but could not net the equalizer as a shot at the buzzer sailed wide.
Medina also got off to a quick start jumping out to a 3-0 lead in the first three and a half minutes on a burst of 3 tallies by Mason Lewis.
East Aurora though came battling back.
The Blue Devils cut the deficit to 3-2 at the end of the first period and then used a big 6-1 second quarter scoring edge to rally into an 8-4 lead at the half. A quick burst of thee goals within a span of 1:23 early in the period put the Devils on top to stay at 5-3.
East Aurora maintained a 12-6 lead at the three-quarter mark after outscoring Medina 4-2 in the third period.
Silversmith and Lewis both finished with 5 goals and Luthart 2 for Medina which has started a busy regular season ending stretch of four games in six days.
Now at 7-6 overall, the Mustangs host Gananda at 6 p.m. Monday and then visit West Seneca West on Tuesday and Lew-Port on Thursday.
