Albion matmen trim Wilson; Holley-Kendall scores key victory over Byron-Bergen

Contributed Photo – The Albion Purple Eagles dedicated their recent home match against Akron to the memory of Johnny Fiebelkorn, the Tiger wrestler who was killed in a car accident this past summer. The Purple Eagles had T-shirts made to show their condolences to the Akron team and their families. Registering a total of seven pins, Albion posted a narrow 45-39 victory over visiting Wilson this evening to improve to 3-2 in Niagara-Orleans League wrestling competition.

Cody Wilson’s third period pin at 220 provided the margin of victory for Albion which also got pins from Hunter Albright, Preston Flugel, Malachi Sugar, Ugene Harrison, Tim Wells and Chase Carlton.

The loss drops Wilson to 1-4.

Newfane 49, Medina 21
Defending champion Newfane closed out the 5-0 dual meet portion of the N-O season with a 49-21 victory over host Medina.

Elijah Sones, Colby Petrie and Joe Gates all registered pins for Medina (2-3) as DaRon Bellan added a decision win.

Holley-Kendall 50, Byron-Bergen 36
Pins by Jeff Moynihan, Jayden Pieniaszek, Brandon Gardner, Erik Balys and Dylan Spellam, along with a decision win by Hunter McLean, keyed Holley-Kendall to a key 50-36 Genesee Region League victory over visiting Byron-Bergen.
