Lyndonville cagers top Rochester Prep
Featuring a balanced attack, Lyndonville defeated visiting Rochester Prep 71-59 this evening in a non league game.
Nathan Poler scored 20, Zach Johnson 18, Matt Hess 15, Nathan Dillenbeck 10 and Kane Flynn 8 to spark the Tigers which notched victory No. 2 on the season. Hess also grabbed off 13 rebounds, Poler 11 and Johnson 10.
Wesley Henderson took game high scoring honors for Rochester Prep with 21.
Lyndonville jumped out to a double digit, 18-8, first period lead as Poler tallied 6, Johnson 5, Hess 4 and Flynn 3.
Rochester Prep did pull to within four, 25-21, late in the second period but Lyndonville closed with 10-2 run capped off by back-to-back threes by Johnson and Flynn, to regain a 12 point, 25-23, advantage at the half. A rebound bucket by Johnson and a layup by Hess ignited that key spurt.
A pair of threes by Dillenbeck helped extend the Lyndonville advantage to as much as 19, 54-35, late in the third period which finished with the Tigers up by 15, 58-43.
Poler had nine in the third period on a three-point play, two jumpers and a layup, and Dillenbeck 8.
Rochester Prep did pull to within nine, 63-54, midway through the final stanza but would get no closer as Lyndonville answered with a rebound bucket by Hess and a layup by Johnson to regain command at 67-54 with 2:30 remaining.
