Fast start sparks Medina girls to victory

Jumping out to a 15-0 lead at the outset, Medina went on to defeat visiting Health Sciences 53-30 this evening in a non league girls basketball game earning new Coach Larry Lash his first victory at the Mustangs helm.

Je’ne Brown and Camri King each scored 6 points on a three layups to key that early surge for Medina which led 16-3 at the end of the opening period.

Health Sciences, which cut the deficit a bit to 20-11 at the half, rallied to within four, 20-16 at the outset of the second half but would get no closer.

Medina answered back with a huge 24-3 scoring burst over the rest of the period to regain a commanding 25 point, 44-19, advantage at the three-quarter mark.

Brown scored 12 points to lead that uprising as King, Maleyah Brewer and Kharise Johnson each added 4.

Je’ ne Brown finished with a game high 22 points as King had 10, Kharise Johnson 7, Brewer 4,  Divere Brown 3, Shamara Howard 3, Sarah Cochrane 2 and Brianna MacFarland 2.

Jasmine Rose led Health Sciences with 19.

Now at 1-1, Medina next hosts Nardin at 6:30 p.m. Thursday in a non league contest.
