Local player earns Upstate League honor
Joe Dell’oso has been named Upstate Baseball League Division 2 Pitcher of the Year.
Dell’oso, a student at Starpoint, pitched 10.1 innings in the August league striking out 12 and posting a 0.69 earned run average. His team lost to the top seed 3-2 in the playoff semifinals.
Two Medina players, Chris Goyette and Nate Sherman, also competed in the league which is for travel level players who aspire to play college baseball. Games were played in August at the University of Rochester.
Dell’oso, Goyette and Sherman were also teammates this season on the Niagara Nationals squad. Dell’oso had a 1.55 era and Goyette a 2.51 era with the Nationals. At the plate, Dell’oso hit .340 with 34 RBIs, Goyette .311 with 23 RBIs and Sherman .380 with 31 RBIs.
