Photos by Mike Wertman – Work on the major renovation project at Medina’s Veterans Memorial Park is continuing with the installation of a new extensive drainage system. Crews are shown here digging some of the trenches for the drainage piping. Following the completion of the drainage work and site grading new artificial turf will be installed completely covering the football, baseball and softball areas of the park. The new artificial turf will cover the entire baseball and softball infields eliminating the old dirt cutout areas around the bases at home plate and on the mound. This year’s portion of the two year project, which is scheduled to be completed in September, will also include the installation of a new video scoreboard at the east end of the park.
Part of the extensive new drainage system is shown here. The renovation project will conclude next year when the park will be expanded some to the south and a new grandstand installed on that area.
