Medina tennis coach receives top state honor

Medina Coach Chris Horgan has been named state boys tennis Coach of the Year by the New York State Public High School Athletic Association.
Horgan, who marked his 30th year as a coach this spring, guided the Mustangs to a second straight Niagara-Orleans League title and the fifth in the last six years.
“It’s a great honor and I’m very appreciative of it personally but really it is an award for our school’s tennis program and for all of the accomplishments of our players over the years,” he said.
Horgan has coached the Mustang netters for the past 17 years. His teams have compiled a 160-52 N-O record including a total of seven championships.
Prior to that he coached for 13 years (1981-1993) at Roy-Hart where his Rams teams compiled an N-O record of 124-46 and won five league titles. Ironically three of those titles (1990, 1991 and 1992) were co-championships with Medina.
For many years he has also conducted the annual free summer tennis program for the Medina School District.
