Many from Orleans take the polar plunge

ROCHESTER – There were about 2,000 people who joined in the Rochester Polar Plunge today at about noon, including several from Orleans County, including teams from Holley and Kendall schools.
The 17th Annual Rochester Polar Plunge raised nearly $222,000 for the Special Olympics. The event is held in Charlotte at Ontario Beach Park.
For the second straight year, Holley schools sent a team, including Principal Susan Cory, left, and Assistant Principal Dan Courtney, right. The Holley team raised $980. Holley had about 30 students, and several staff members jump into the lake.
Kendall also had a team, including Assistant Principal Kevin Watson, in back with blue hat.
Lovette French, a security guard at Kendall Central School for 21 years, dressed as a pink Power Ranger. She raised more than $600 herself for the Polar Plunge.
A group from the Albion youth football program, including Geno Allport in back right, get ready to take the plunge.
Many of the participants wore outlandish outfits with super hero themes.
This group had a rubber duck theme.
Monroe County Sheriff Patrick O’Flynn and a Special Olympian lead the processional to the water.
The plungers went in waves so there wasn’t too much congestion in the chilly water.
It was about 35 degrees when the plunge started at noon.
