Lyndonville mat duo claims Class B titles
Two Lyndonville High wrestlers, seniors Jeff Gress Jr. and Dustin Hinckley, captured top honors at the Section V Class B championships held today at Keshequa.
Gress captured the 126 lb. title with an 18-3 technical fall win over Colten Studley of Bolivar-Richburg. He advanced to the title match with a quick 53 second pin in the quarterfinals and a 14-0 major decision win in the semis.
Hinckley claimed the 160 lb. crown with a 6-0 decision win over Conner McEvoy of Keshequa. He earned a spot in the finals by scoring quick pin of 1:01 in the quarterfinals and a 15-0 technical fall victory in the semis.
The Tigers also had a trio of second place finishers in Chase Stinson (113), Dustin Joy (145) and Frankie Carrasquillo (285).
Stinson scored a technical fall win in the quarterfinals and a pin of 3:52 in the semis before dropping a 19-4 technical fall decision to Colton Davis of Keshequa in the finals.
Joy scored a pin of 3:27 in the quarterfinals and an 8-1 decision win in the semis before losing a narrow 2-1 decision to Adam Wagner of South Seneca in the finals.
Carresquillo notched a pin of 1:34 in the quarterfinals and a 3-1 decision victory in the semis before being pinned in the finals in 3:54 by Jacob London of Alfred-Almond.
All five Tiger grapplers now advance to the Section V state qualifier championships.
