Breaking the contest wide open with a huge third quarter scoring burst, Oakfield-Alabama went on to defeat the host Rams 62-32 this afternoon in the championship game of the Roy-Hart Tournament.

Leading 29-20 at the half, Oakfield-Alabama erupted to outpoint Roy-Hart 19-3 in the decisive third period.

Dalton Carlson scored 8 early points to ignite that uprising as the Hornets pulled away to a commanding 25 point, 48-23, advantage at the three-quarter mark.

The Hornets jumped out to a 10 point, 17-7, lead at the end of the first period. Ryan Douglas, who was named the tourney’s MVP, scored 7 and Reice Woodward, who was selected to the All-Tournament team, netted 4 to lead that early Hornets surge.

Douglas then scored all 12 of the Hornets second period points, including a pair of threes, to keep O-A up by 9, 29-20, at the half.

Douglas finished with a game high 27, Woodward 14 and Carlson 10.

Jacob Bruning scored 12 for Roy-Hart as Matt Borel added 5, DJ Davis and Brendon Hess 4, Charlie Brigham 3 and Tim Moriarity and Paul Ragonese 2 each. Bruning and Borel were both named to the All-Tournament team.

Now at 1-3, Roy-Hart next hosts CCA in a non league game Tuesday.
