Elected officials respond to Trump win
Elected officials are reacting to Donald Trump’s upset win for U.S. president. The reactions range from “heartbroken” to strong support for Trump.
U.S. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand:
“Obviously, I was deeply heartbroken by the results last night. Hillary Clinton has been a friend, mentor and inspiration to me my entire adult life.
“We are fortunate to live in the greatest Democracy on earth that is built upon important checks and balances. I stand ready to work cooperatively with President-Elect Trump on shared goals and values and will be equally vigilant in opposing him where our values diverge.
“I am committed to serving others, making a difference, and helping to heal our great country.”
State Sen. Robert Ortt (R-North Tonawanda):
“Last night’s election results may have been surprising to the mainstream media, but this has been absolutely consistent with what I’ve heard from my constituents. Voters want demonstrable change and they’re sick and tired of the failed status quo. Whether it’s flawed trade policies at the national level, or an ethically-challenged Governor at the state level, voters are demanding – and deserve – real change at all levels of government. It’s time for legislators to get to work, unite our country, and create jobs across these amazing United States of America.”
Congressman Chris Collins (R-Clarence):
“On February 24th I became the first member of Congress to endorse Donald J. Trump. Last night he became President-elect of United States of America. Now, the work begins to make America great again.”
