A lone first half goal proved to be just enough to earn No. 4 seed Holley a 1-0 victory over visiting No. 13 LeRoy this evening in the opening round of the Section V Class C1 boys soccer playoffs.

Derek McArthur’s 12th goal of the season, off an assist from Erik Balys midway through the first half, proved to be just enough for the Hawks.

Patrick Bower earned the shutout in goal for Holley which played without its leading scorer, senior Andrew Cary, who had an appendectomy on Tuesday.

The Hawks improve to 12-2-3 on the season.

Holley next looks to host No. 5 Geneseo in the quarterfinals on Saturday. Geneseo romped past No. 12 Addison 7-0 in another opening round contest this evening.
